Laxman Vyas

Laxman Vyas is a distinguished sculptor whose passion for the art form began in childhood and has since evolved into an illustrious career spanning India and abroad. Over the years, he has sculpted more than 200 statues and historical figures, many of which are installed in prominent public spaces across the globe.

He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Rajasthan, laying a strong academic foundation for his artistic pursuits. Despite initial expectations from his father to pursue a career in academia, Vyas remained dedicated to his creative path and was never discouraged from sculpting.

Laxman Vyas is credited with bringing Nohar’s local sculptural tradition into national and international recognition. His artistry blends classical technique with cultural narrative, earning him respect across artistic and governmental circles. Notably, he contributed to the construction of the Ashoka Pillar installed at the Indian Parliament House, a testament to his technical mastery and national significance. Among Laxman Vyas’s most acclaimed works are the statues of Indira Gandhi in Bikaner and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Jodhpur, both of which are admired for their lifelike detail and powerful presence. His Peacock Sculpture at Peacock Garden in Jaipur and the Elephant Sculpture installed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi reflect his ability to fuse cultural symbolism with modern sculptural aesthetics. His artistry has also been recognized internationally, with sculptures exhibited at the M.F. Husain International Museum in Qatar.

Over the course of his career, Vyas has received numerous awards and honours for his outstanding contributions to the field of sculpture. These include the Student Exhibition Award (2001) and Kala Mela Award (1998–99) from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi, as well as a scholarship from the same institution for the years 1997–98. He was honoured with the Satya Shanti Samman in Jaipur in 2009, the Sir Sawai Man Singh II Trust Award in 2016, and the National Award by Akhil Bhartiya Brahman Vibhuti Samman in 2014. In addition, he received the Brahman Rattan from the Rajasthan Brahman Mahasabha in 2015, and the Pushkarna Brahman Samman in 2013 in Bikaner. His exceptional work has earned him felicitations from several Chief Ministers, Central Ministers, and State Ministers across India, further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s leading sculptors.
