Born in 1971 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Sushil Sharma is a distinguished Indian contemporary artist. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Rajasthan School of Arts, followed by a Master’s and Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. Deeply introspective in his artistic philosophy, Sharma views painting as a personal and emotional journey. He describes his process as a gravitational pull that draws him from image to object, and from object to nature, exploring a private and immersive world within himself. His work is a continuous search for the hidden layers of human experience, which he expresses through vibrant colours, layered textures, and intricate details.
Over the years, Dr. Sharma has been recognized with several prestigious honours that acknowledge his artistic achievements. His accolades include the State Art Student Award from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi (1996), the Mewar Foundation Award (1997), and the State Artist Awards from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi in 1998 and again in 2005.
He received the All-India P.T. Reddy Memorial Kala Sangati Award in Hyderabad in 2007, followed by the All India AIFACS Awards in 2009. In 2011, he was recognized by the Indian Academy of Fine Art, Amritsar, and in 2023, he was conferred with the prestigious National Kala Kaustubh Samman by Kalavrit Nyas, Ujjain.
