Surjeet Choyal

Born in 1948 in Rajasthan, Surjeet is an accomplished and influential artist whose journey in the visual arts began with a Master’s degree in Painting, completed in 1969. Over the decades, she has established herself as an influential voice in Indian contemporary art, celebrated for her expressive practice and her consistent participation in prominent exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

Her artworks have been showcased in several prestigious exhibitions in India, including ‘Confluence des Arts’ at Gallery Art chill, Amber Fort (Jaipur, 2013), as well as at major institutions such as the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), and the Bombay Art Society the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), and the Bombay Art Society. In addition to these, she has been part of many invited groups shows hosted by respected private art galleries across India. Surjeet has showcased Indian art on global stages as well. She was invited to participate in several prestigious international events, including the Vith Triennale India (1991), the North Regional Exhibition organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi (1993), the Asian Biennale held in Fukuoka, Japan, and a group exhibition in Frankfurt, curated by the German Development Co-operation.

Throughout her illustrious career, Surjeet has received numerous awards and recognitions, highlighting both her artistic mastery and her contribution to the visual arts. Some of her key accolades include:

1970 – Award from Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi

1985 – Awards from both Maha Kaushal Kala Parishad and Rajasthan Lalit Kala Academy

1986 – Received a recognition award from the Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar, for her artistic achievements.

1989 – Recognition by the Airport Authority of India

1990 – Received an award from the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi, in recognition of her artistic excellence.

1993 – Received the All India Award from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi and a Commendation at the National Exhibition

1991, she was awarded a Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to conduct research on "Photography as Social Realism and Inspiration." This project focused on exploring photography’s role in capturing and reflecting social realities through artistic interpretation.
