Prasenjit Sengupta, born in 1964 in Siliguri, West Bengal, is a distinguished Indian artist acclaimed for his hyper-realistic approach to painting. Rejecting the more common abstract and figurative trends of his peers, Prasenjit focuses primarily on the human figure, executing each work with extraordinary precision and finesse. His paintings often evoke a surreal atmosphere, where intense realism is interwoven with a subtle dreamlike quality, brought to life through his masterful control of light, tone, and texture.
A graduate of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, where he earned his Bachelor of Visual Arts, Prasenjit has developed a signature style defined by refined surfaces, intricate detailing, and carefully crafted contours. Working with a restrained yet powerful palette, his subjects emerge with a vivid sense of presence, reflecting an acute observational ability and technical brilliance.
Prasenjit Sengupta has showcased his art in several esteemed solo exhibitions across India, including at the Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi (2005 and 2007, in collaboration withGallery Sanskriti; Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (1994, in collaboration with RPG); Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata (2007); ABC India Ltd., Varanasi (1996); and Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata (1994). In addition to his solo shows, he has actively participated in numerous group exhibitions and art camps, both nationally and internationally. Prasenjit Sengupta’s works are part of distinguished private and institutional art collections across the globe. His commitment to hyperrealism, combined with his poetic and psychological depth, makes his body of work both visually compelling and emotionally profound.
