Lalit Sharma, born in 1959 in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, grew up surrounded by art and was introduced to the traditional Pichwai style at an early age. He trained under his father and grandfather, both established artists, and inherited his artistic legacy from his father, Ghanshyam Sharma, a renowned master of miniature painting. Later, he pursued formal education in the field, completing a Master’s degree in Drawing and Painting from the University of Udaipur.
Lalit’s artistic vision is shaped by the architectural grandeur of Rajasthan—its palaces, buildings, and the serene beauty of Udaipur with its lakes, winding streets, hills, and trees—all of which frequently appear in his work. His compositions also often draw on spiritual and scriptural themes. Firmly grounded in the miniature painting tradition, Lalit Sharma brings a contemporary sensibility to his work, blending classical aesthetics with modern expression. He experiments with scale, creating larger canvases, and uses diverse media such as watercolour, oil, and tempera. His work is known for its subtle variations in form and the use of multiple perspectives, blending traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics.
Lalit Sharma’s artworks have been exhibited widely across India and abroad, with showcases in cities like Cardiff and London (UK), the Netherlands, and Japan, as well as in prominent Indian art hubs including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Delhi, Udaipur, Chandigarh, Pune, and Chennai. Lalit Sharma has received multiple accolades for his artistic contributions, including being a three-time recipient of the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi Award. He has also been honoured with the prestigious AIFACS Award, a Gold Medal from Tulika Kalakar Parishad in Udaipur, and a Silver Medal at the Kalankan Exhibition organized by Tilak Smarak, Pune.
