Bo Shailesh

Hailing from Shimoga in Karnataka, B.O. Shailesh is a contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice reflects the nuanced spectrum of human emotions and inner experiences. Drawing from personal memories and youthful introspection, Bo’s art reflects a deep curiosity about the world around him—shaped by emotions such as shyness, love, rebellion, eroticism, and a yearning for freedom. His paintings often serve as visual memoirs, giving form to fleeting emotions and moments. Bo Shailesh began his artistic career as a freelance artist after earning his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 1993, eventually setting up his studio at the renowned Cholamandal Artists’ Village in Chennai. A central influence in Bo’s work is his profound interest in Yoga, which informs both his visual aesthetics and thematic direction. His paintings and sculptures often capture dynamic, flowing human forms in yogic postures, emphasizing balance, rhythm, and inner harmony. These forms become metaphors for broader ideas—man’s relationship with nature, animals, and the divine.

Bo’s art bridges the physical and metaphysical realms, engaging viewers in a visual dialogue that touches on spirituality, identity, and the interconnectedness of all life. His work has been exhibited internationally, and is part of several prominent collections in Germany, Korea, France, as well as Lalit Kala Akademi, Hyatt Regency Chennai, and numerous private collections.

Among his many accolades, Bo has received the Tamil Nadu State Award (2016), Camlin Art Foundation Award (2012), and the Lyon Award in France (2008), along with various other honours since his student days.
